I would like to say "Thank you", to Strut n' Rut for showing my Johnathan ak
Lil Johnny" an amazing time and a life changing experience. Not only was it life changing for my son but also for our family.
I will never forget the warmth and genuine compassion my whole family received from Joe and John with Strut n' Rut, but also from Mr. Murphy, "P", and Trey.
Lil Johnny ran around the proudest man that weekend and I saw my disabled son evolve into a young man almost overnight.
The very first night we were there he shot his first buck and he was so proud. What made it so GREAT is he was shown he can do anything he wants, he is a "normal" child, and all the attention was just for him, and in his words he felt "The Power".
Of course as a mother of a disabled child, I worried my head off and tried to henpeck him to death, but they told me "let him be a boy. I did just that and he grew into a young man right before my eyes. The one part I will always remember is when my son took me out on a ride and he told me "Mom, you don't have to worry about me out here, they protect me". He did say I could still worry about him at home. His goal now is to get land and do this kind of thing for his church. I almost fell out the buggy, because my son had never had such a deep and heartfelt conversation with me like that ever.
Another worry I had, which I am sure every parent has when their kids leave their sights, was of course these are strangers. All of these men showed my family that there is truly still "good people" in the world and never once did they ignore him or treat him differently, my son felt at home.
From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, we were family, so anyone checking this site out for a possible outing with your child...go for it. It is an experience beyond your wildest imagination.
I want to also take the time to express my sincerest gratitude to Holopaw Homeowners for making it possible for Strut n' Rut to bring so much joy to these kids that get left behind and to their families. Very few can understand the emotion you feel when you see the joy on their faces and my lil Johnny's joy I will never forget. He is still asking to go back again...I tell him one day soon we will. Thank you to everyone that made my lil Johnny so HAPPY!
